In the initial game of Saturday’s double header against the Pirates of Rocky River, the Sailors scored double digits in their second straight game as they racked up 14 runs on 9 hits against 3 Pirates hurlers. Leading the way offensively was the rookie Jack Wells dug deep as he banged out 3 hits, scored four runs, stole 2 bases and drove in 3 runners. Jacob Reutter drove in two runs in the first inning as he stroked a single to right field to drive what would prove to be the eventual winning runs. Hunter Etienne, Brock Fisher, Jayden Fox, Josh DiFucci and Brian Darrah all banged out singles for the Sailors with Fisher and DiFucci driving in runs. Nick Werth also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Etienne, Wells, Clark, Fisher, and DiFucci all swiped bases for the Sailors as well. On the defensive side, Brian Darrah, making his first start of the season, was able to work himself out of a bases loaded jam by striking out the last two batters to end the threat. The Sailors posted four runs in their half of the inning. Darrah returned for the second to strike out 2 of the four batters he faced in the inning. Darrah was relieved in the third inning after getting into trouble by Tricky Ricky Kearns who was able to strike out two of the four batters he faced to end the inning. Kearns would finish the game striking out four of the eight batters he faced. As the pair of Sailor hurlers were keeping the Pirates at bay, the Sailors batted around in the 1st and the 4th innings and scored a pair of runs in the 2nd and the 3rd.
The Sailors raised their record to a sizzling 9-1 on the year.
