The Vermilion Sailors Junior Varsity baseball team turned up the heat on the Polar Bears from Margaretta on Friday night and beat the visiting team 17 – 0. The Sailors dominated the game on both sides of the ledger as their pitchers, Ricky “The Ankle” Kearns and “Mater” Shultz combined to surrender one hit and spike out 8 Polar Bears on their way to victory. Kearns got the joint jumping by striking out three of the six batters he faced to start the game. Shultz was able to tow in the victory by striking out half of the batters he faced. On the offensive side, the Sailors ran wild on the bases stealing 11 bases in just four innings of play. Shultz was not only striking Polar Bears out, he was stealing from them as well as he swiped three bases and Hunter Etienne and Jack Wells both swiped 2 bases apiece. Jayden Fox, Brock Fisher, Konner Clark, and Josh DiFucci each swiped one as well. NIck Werth was worth it at the plate going 3 for 3, scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 runs. Shultz also hook up three base hits and three RBI’s. Clark would also reach the 3 RBI bar with two hits, including a double. Wells pumped up two hits, while Fox, Fisher, DiFucci, and Koeth each banged out a single apiece to fuel the 14 hit attack.
