The Sailors fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 19-10 loss to Perkins on Friday. Perkins scored on a groundout by K Zeiher in the first inning, a double by Rylee Yates in the first inning, a home run by Taylor Hawkins in the first inning, a home run by C Kaufman in the second inning, a walk by A Obermeyer in the second inning, and a walk by L Peters in the second inning.

Despite the loss, Vermilion did collect seven hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Perkins had 15 hits on the way to victory.

The Sailors evened things up at four in the bottom of the first inning. Grace Mealey grounded out, scoring one run.

Perkins pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Kaufman homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, Obermeyer drew a walk, scoring one run, and Peters drew a walk, scoring one run.

Vermilion scored four runs in the fourth inning. Haley Larizza had an RBI triple in the inning to lead the run scoring.

Danielle McGlothlin led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Vermilion. The righty left early due to an injury. Emilley Smith and Morgan Potts (injured) entered the game as relief, throwing five and a third innings and one-third of an inning respectively.

Larizza went 2-for-5 at the plate to lead The team in hits.

The Sailors take on the Norwalk Truckers on Monday at 4:45.
