The Sailors varsity football team took to the road to close out their 2020 campaign and returned home a winner as they knocked off New London 49-13.

The Sailors defense forced a three and out to start the game and the Sailors then drove the field to set up a 11 yards touchdown pass from Ben Rini to Keegan Frey. Logue’s extra point made it 7-0. New London responded with a drive of their own to tie things up 7-7. The Sailors offense began to fire on all cylinders when Justin Wagner would just need one carry to go 83 yards and the score. Following another defensive stop, Rini would connect with Ethan Young for 22 yards and a touchdown. Rini followed up his touchdown pass with an 8 yard scamper and with less than a minute to go in the half Rini connected with Uriah Rhoades from 29 yards out to make it 35-7 at the half.

Coming out of the break a big return by Keegan Frey set up the Sailors with good field position. Wagner found the end zone with for his second score of the night from 21 yards out. The ensuing kickoff the Sailors forced a fumble recovered by Damon Neal that set up a 33 yard touchdown run by Hayden Valenti. New London added a score late as the Sailors took home the 49-13 victory.

Rini finished the night 8-12 passing for 113 yards and three touchdowns and added 106 yards on the ground a touchdown. Wagner carried the ball 13 times for 172 yards and two scores. Valenti added 36 yards on ground and a score. Young grabbed 5 receptions for 57 yards. Rhoades’s lone grab went for 29 yards and a touchdown. Frey’s lone receptions went for 11 yards and a touchdown. Logue connected on all 7 of his extra points.

The Sailors will finish the year 3-8.
