Zach Jones hit a triple with 2 second left Friday night as the Sailors knocked off the Brookside Cardinals 43-40 in non-conference action.

Both the Cardinals and the Sailors struggled to find their footing from the opening tip as neither team could get a shot to fall. However, the Sailors found their rhythm first and grabbed an early four point lead. The Cardinals rebounded in the second to grab a short lived 11-10 lead but the Sailors quickly responded with a 10-0 run before taking a 22-15 lead to the locker room.

The Sailors grew their lead to 11 points through the midway point of the third quarter but the Cardinals went on a 10-0 run of their own to pull back within one. The Sailors held on to a 33-31 lead after three.

The Cardinals kept pace with the Sailors throughout the fourth quarter before taking a 38-36 lead. After knocking down a free throw the Cardinals took a 40-37 lead before a Matt Saegert three tied things up at 40 all. Brookside had the chance to take the lead from the free throw line but after a miss the Sailors snatched the rebound and had one final possession. Following a time out the Sailors set up one last play and Justin Wagner hit Zach Jones in the corner for three and Sailors took the 43-40 lead. The Sailors stole the last second inbounds play to seal the victory.

Zach Jones connected on six three pointers en route to his game high 18 points. Donevan Lewis fell one point shy of a double-double, finishing with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Saegert added 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Ethan Young, Justin Wagner, and Ethan Hendrickson all chipped in 2 points. Young grabbed 8 rebounds and Wagner had 4 assists. Gus Matheson rounded out the scoring with one point.

The Sailors improve to 7-12 on the year. They are currently scheduled to return to actiion Tuesday to open up sectional play against Lexington at home.
