The Vermilion Sailor varsity basketball team held of a hard charging Shelby Whippet team in the forth quarter to keep their tournament dreams alive, knocking off the Whippets 53-47.
The Whippets jumped out to an early 11-8 lead but the Sailors got into a rhythm coming into the second quarter, and turned the three point deficit into a three point lead at the half. The Sailors took their 26-23 lead at half and expanded their lead to 13 heading into the fourth. The Whippets kept cutting into the Sailors lead into the fourth, but the Sailors knocked down some clutch free throws down the stretch to bring home the victory.
Joby Pfeil finished a game high 20 points. Mason Montgomery added 15, and Seth Hurd finished with 8.
The Sailors improve their record to 20-4 on the year and will take on the winner of the Clyde/Lexington game at Mansfield Madison Middle school on March 6th, with a tip off time scheduled for 8 p.m.
