The boys junior varsity squad opened up their season in part of the Vermilion Athletic Booster Club Tip-Off Classic Wednesday night against the Huron Tigers. The junior varsity squad fell 53-21.
The Tigers jumped on the the Sailors early, opening up a nine point lead after one, and pushed their lead to double figures as they led the Sailors 23-10 at the half. The Sailors never got their offense rolling as the Tigers held them to single digits in each quarter. The Tigers capitalized on the Sailors offensive struggles as they outscored them by 19 in the second half to notch the 53-21 victory.
Ethan Hendrickson paced the Sailors with 7 points in the loss, as Uriah Rhoades finished with 6. Isaac McKeefer chipped in 4, Ben Rini and Braden Maki each had 2, and Gus Matheson rounded out the Sailor scoring with 1.
With the win the Tigers will take on Oberlin’s junior varsity squad on Friday, and the Sailors (0-1) will take on Bay at 3 p.m.
