The boys junior varsity fell to 1-3 on the season, after falling to the Elyria Pioneers 49-24, Tuesday night at home.
The junior varsity team got off to a hot start and their defense was locked playing with high energy. They kept a good Pioneer squad in check and led until early in the second quarter. The Pioneers caught fire and began to pull away from the Sailors. The Sailors remained within striking distance, trailing 20-13 at the break.
The Sailors kept pace with the Pioneers early in the second half, but the Pioneers remained hot and the Sailors never caught a break of their own. The Pioneers used a big fourth quarter to put away the Sailors for good, 49-24.
Cole Groene and Ethan Hendrickson paced the Sailors with 6 points each. Gus Matheson chipped in 4. Jaden Borlaug and Andrew Hendershot each added 3. Xavier Horning rounded out the scoring column with 2.
The junior varsity returns to action Thursday night to take on Bellevue in conference play.
