The boys junior varsity basketball team used a 23 point third quarter to propel themselves over the Willard Crimson Flashed 58-42.
During the first quarter of play, neither team could find and advantage. Willard and the Sailor would exchange baskets, but it was the Sailors who found themselves up one after the first quarter of play. The Sailors stepped it up on both ends of the floor in the second. The Sailors would hold Willard to 8 points, while pouring in 13 of their own, push their lead 6 heading to break. The Sailors led 24-18.
It was the third quarter of play where the Sailors exploded for 23 points, and were able to push their lead to double figures. Willard however, wouldn’t go away quietly as they poured in 15 points of their own, but the Sailors were too much for them as the Sailors lead 47-33 heading into the fourth. The Sailors managed their 14 point lead well through out the fourth quarter, as they held Willard to 9 points, and they were able to come away with the 58-42 victory.
Matt Saegert led all scorers with 21 points in the Sailors victory. Zach Jones added 16, including three triples. Jack Wells finished the night with 9, and was good for two from downtown. Hunter Etienne chipped in 7, and Ethan Young finished with 5.
With the victory the junior varsity team improved to 11-8 on the year, and improve to 9-1 in the SBC. The junior varsity team returns to action tomorrow night when they travel to Margaretta High School to take on the Polar Bears.
