After nearly two weeks off the boys freshman team returned to action Tuesday night to take on the Sandusky Blue Streaks, and in a back and forth game the Sailors fell to the Blue Streaks 49-42 in overtime.
The Sailors jumped out to an early lead and looked to keep up their momentum heading into the second quarter of action. After exchanging leads on what it seemed like every possession the Blue Streaks took a 21-20 lead at the break.
The second half of action was the same song and dance. Neither team looked as if their wanted to hold on to the lead for any period of time. However, the Sailors took a one point lead heading into the fourth. Each team saved their best for last but the Blue Streaks were able to tie things up at 40 apiece to force some bonus ball.
The Blue Streak went on to score the first 9 points of overtime as the Sailors had numerous looks at the basketball but didn’t have lady luck on their side. The Blue Streaks held on to the 49-42 victory.
Thomas Ngure dropped a team high 20 points for the Sailors. AJ Gerber netted 10 points. Riley Kearns chipped in 6. Wyatt German added 4 points and Aden Marcum rounded out the scoring with 2.
With the loss the freshman fall to 4-6 (1-3 SBC Lake) on the season. They return to action Saturday afternoon when they take on Perkins Pirates at home in SBC action.
