Jason Sockel, in only his second year as head coach of Vermilion Girls Basketball (2nd year overall as a head coach), was voted co-coach of the year in division 2, district 6 by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association (Kory Santoro of Bellevue was also named).
Coach Sockel has quickly raised the level of expectations and intensity in Sailor Girls Basketball. Assisted by Doug Mihalic, Anjie Caffarel and Aubree LaForce, Jason is rapidly building a program that is tough, aggressive and competitive. “Our girls basketball staff are all parents of girls and I’m a father of four girls”, says athletic director Andrew Stillman. “So to see our Sailor girls out there excited to compete, it’s just such a great example to all the young girls in Vermilion to see what a strong young woman can be. That’s a testament to what coach Sockel is doing with that program and how he is leading the group.”

Also voted to the team were junior, Marianna Plas (1st team) and senior, Camryn Colahan (honorable mention).
