Boys Varsity Wrestling · Grapplers finish 3-2 at Monroeville this past weekend…

The varsity wrestling team traveled to Monroeville this past weekend to compete in a dual team tournament.  On the weekend the team won 3 of their 5 duals, dropping matches to Crestview and Dalton…the scores sometimes a bit deceiving because of how many points were surrendered due to forfeits (18 pts. in the Dalton dual).  The Sailors were lead by senior Chris Bennett who was a perfect 5-0 on the weekend.  Chris earned 2 falls, 2 decisions, and a major decision against a state ranked Dalton opponent.  Chris had his way with the young man from Dalton handing him a 17-4 shellacking.  Chris is now 22-5 on the season, still state ranked at 195 lbs. in Div. II, and sitting at 98 wins in his varsity wrestling career!  Other standout performers this weekend include senior, Joey Serfozo at 126 lbs. and sophomore, Owen Kyser at 138 lbs.  Joey and Owen each went 4-1 on the weekend.  2 of Joey’s wins came by way of fall, while Owen registered a fall and a technical fall in his handful of wins.  Sophomores Lewis Strama (113 lbs.), Aiden Miller (132 lbs.) and Malachi Howell (145 lbs.) all went 3-2 on the weekend.  Aiden added two more falls to his impressive season stats, with Malachi registering a fall and a major decision on the weekend.  A boatload of Sailors contributed wins to the team effort with freshman, Ryan Koleszar (145 lbs.) going a perfect 2-0 with 2 falls in limited action, sophomore, Kreston Shaw (126 lbs.) 1-0 with a fall, and senior, Joey Brass (132 lbs.) 1-0 with a fall.  Sophomore, Michael Brass (152 lbs.), freshman, Chris Wood, and senior, Drake Shaw all went 2-3 on the weekend.  Next up for the sailors the McCumber Invitational at Rossford on Saturday, 1/16.
