The Vermilion Sailor Athletic Department is known for attracting young talented assistant coaches and then promoting the best and brightest from within. Provided Board approval, it will happen again as the Sailors will name Hannah Bartlome as their new head coach of the girls soccer program. Hannah was a 2014 graduate of Vermilion High School where she was a three sport athlete. During her high school career she earned All-Ohio in Track and Field 8 times. She is also currently the all-time leading scorer in girls basketball history at Vermilion. Hannah then went on to Ashland University where she ran track for four years and earned All-American status as a high jumper. She then graduated in 2018. Coach Bartlome is the current jumps coach for Vermilion’s track and field team and was an assistant soccer coach for the past three years under veteran coach Dan O’Brien. Hannah currently serves as the Sports and Family Coordinator at French Creek Family YMCA in Avon.
“Coach Bartlome has built relationships with the girls in our district.” Says Athletic Director Andrew Stillman. “She has been working with most of them since they were in 7th grade and we feel this is the perfect time for Hannah to take the reins of our girls soccer program.” Dan O’Brien was a great mentor for her and we’ve seen Hannah grow as a coach over the past few years. Hannah understands that this is a relationship business and that our main mission at Sailor Athletics is to develop our young people into great citizens. I for one, am excited to see her put her own stamp on this program.”
Vermilion girls soccer returns a lot of young talent off of their playoff run in 2019 and 2020 should prove to be another exciting season!
