ONTARIO – The boys and girls cross country teams returned to the course on Saturday, September 26th in after a week off last weekend when they traveled to the Bill Brown Invitational in Ontario. The weekend off did the trick for the Sailors as the Purple and Gold turned in some impressive performances.
The boys team finished 8th of 14 teams in a competitive field that featured two Top-20 teams. Alex Hershberger led the way for the Sailors with an 11th place finish, who had a season best performance with a time of 18:09. He was followed by Jacob Webb (38th/19:40), Jayden Bearden (47th/20:09), Aiden Miller (53rd/20:27), and Zach Jones (75th/21:49).
“We always seem to compete really well at this meet, and today was no different. Alex led our team right from the get go by being aggressive which really paced our team from the gun to compete. Aiden (Miller) and Dylan Cote really showed themselves and our team what they are capable of by popping out really good performances and career best times” Coach Ryan Ladd said. “I have confidence that this performance will bring some momentum to not only them, however the rest of the team as we move to October.
The girls team had four (4) individual finishers including Allison Leopold, Grace Morris, Danielle McGlothlin, and Riley Rhodes. Seniors Morris and McGlothlin both crossed with season best performances.
“The girls competed today through the line, each of them found themselves in a group to challenge themselves. It was fun to see them fight for positions in the final stretch, I could see a fire was lit inside them today and I cannot wait to see them race on the home course next weekend” Ladd mentioned.
