The Vermilion High School cross country team competed at the Tiffin (Covid) Carnival on Saturday, September 12th. This was the Sailors first appearance at the Tiffin Carnival since 2017. The 2020 version of the Carnival was a small one due to regulations of the state and county health departments. The Sailors were in a field of 14 teams in Session C of the day, featuring teams from Northwest Ohio. The race was the largest field of the season for the Sailors, and most likely will be the largest race under the 2020 regulations for Vermilion.
The boys finished 6th of 14 teams, led by Luke See, who finished 3rd (17:08) in a field of 112 runners.
The scoring for the Sailors was rounded out by Alex Hershberger (26th/18:44), Jacob Webb (41st/19:41), Jayden Bearden (49th/20:03), and Aiden Miller (75th/21:35).
The girls finished 11th of 12 teams, led by Allison Leopold, who finished 36th (24:57) in a field of 91 runners.
The Purple and Gold rounded out the scoring with finishes from Danielle McGlothin (77th/31:26), Grace Morris (80th/32:34), Kaidyn Cobb (86th/35:00), and Riley Rhodes (87th/35:52).
The Sailors have a bye week next weekend, and will return to the course on Saturday, September 26th at the Bill Brown Invitational (Ontario, Ohio).
