Multiple Teams · XC Opens Up Season with a Erie County Dual


HURON –  The Vermilion cross country team opened the season on Saturday, August 29th with an Erie County dual vs. Perkins at Osborn Park. The meet featured a split with the Sailors earning the victory in the Girls High School race, while the boys fell 26-29 to the Perkins Pirates.

The boys High School team was led by Luke See, who won the individual title by 36 seconds leading wire to wire. His efforts were followed by two senior classmates including Alex Hershberger (5th/18:59), Jayden Bearden (6th/19:57). The scoring was rounded out by Jacob Webb (7th/20:01), and Aiden Miller (10th/21:29).

Allison Leopold led the girls team with a 3rd place finish, her highest finish of her career on the cross country course. Following Leopold the Sailors finished in a pack of 5th -8th places with efforts from Alex Trendle, Grace Morris, Danielle McGlothlin, and Riley Rhodes to clinch the victory over the Pirates.

“I am really glad we were able to race today to reward ourselves for the hard work that we have put in over the last month” Coach Ladd said. “I’m equally thankful that the Perkins coaching staff and their team was able to host us for this Erie County dual giving both our programs an opportunity to kick off the season in a safe enviornement”.
