Sailors News · Three Former Girls Track and Field Members Land on Morning Journal All-Decade Team


Congratulations to three former Vermilion female standout Track & Field athletes that will be recognized as members of the Lorain Morning Journal All-Decade Team. The on-line article is being released today (7/23/20) with the publication coming out in tomorrows newspaper (7/24/20)

Emily Cunningham ran from 2009-2012 and finished her career with 5 school records (100m,200m, 400m, 4x100m, 4x200m). She was a State Qualifier all 4 years of her time at Vermilion. She represented Vermilion in 12 different events at the State Meet during her 4 year career, receiving All-Ohio honors 11 of those events. Her highest finish at the State Meet was 2nd place her Sophomore year in the 200m as well as a 2nd place finish anchoring our 4x100m relay team. Emily continued her track career at the University of Cincinnati for one year and then transferred and competed for 2 years at Cuyahoga Community College were she was a National Qualifier. Emily is now living in Florida working in her career long goal job as a Neo-natal Nurse.

Hannah Bartlome competed in both running  and jumping events during the years of 2011-2014 for the Vermilion team. She finished her career with 4 school records (High Jump, Long Jump, 4x100m, 4x200m). Like Emily she qualified for the state meet all 4 years of her time at Vermilion. She represented Vermilion in 10 different events during her time at Vermilion and was All-Ohio in 8 of those events. Her highest finish at the State Meet was 2nd place in High Jump and the 4x100m relay her Sophomore year as well as 2nd place finishes in High Jump and Long Jump her Senior year. Hannah continued her Track & Field career at Ashland University were she competed all four years and was an All-American High Jumper. Hannah is back in Vermilion impacting young athletes by coaching Soccer, Basketball, and Track & Field.

Macy Urig competed for the Vermilion Track & Field team from 2016-2019 and was one of the top Pole Vaulters in the State. She finished her career with a school record vault of 12-0. She qualified for state 2 of her years while at Vermilion and was All-Ohio both those years, with her best finish being 3rd place her Senior year. Macy is currently in her Sophomore year at the University of Cincinnati and looking forward to being able to compete this upcoming Indoor & Outdoor season for the Bearcats.

We as a coaching staff our extremely proud of these ladies that have not only represented our school, team, and community while at Vermilion High school, but continue to do so in their adult lives. They are supreme representatives of what it takes and means to be a scholar-athlete. It has been an honor and pleasure to be apart of each of these ladies lives throughout their high school careers and after.
