COED Cross Country, Coed Varsity Cross Country · STATE XC CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

The 91st annual OHSAA State Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at the National Trail Raceway in Hebron, and for only the fifth time a Vermilion Sailor will be on the line. Luke See will own two of those occurances when he makes his second consecutive apperance at the State Championships on Saturday.

The Junior qualified for the sports pinacle event by earning an All-District finish (5th/16:20) at the Galion District on October 18th and followed that up with an All-Region performance (6th/16:15) last weekend at Tiffin. See’s performance of 16:15 was the 13th fastest time around Ohio from the Regional Championship weekend compared to the results at the three other Regionals located at Pickerington, Boardman, and Troy.

See has competed against the State’s best the last two weekends. The only individuals that have beaten See the last two weeks in route to the State Championships were All-Ohio performers a year ago. In 2018 six (6) of the top-12 finishers at the State Championships were from the Tiffin Region to earn a spot on the podium. The Sailors hope the same statistic happens this weekend. Ahead of See at the Tiffin Regional were three of the top-4 expected finishers at this year’s State Championship race, and a familiar SBC rival from Edison (Ty Coon), who finished 12th at last years State Championships.

A year ago See finished 95th overall in his first apperance at the State Championships, but Coach Ryan Ladd believes the second trip could be a whole lot different with that experience. “I know both of us were a little disapointed with the result last November, but I am very confident that the experience he learned from that race will be invaluable for his second trip”.

A year ago ago it was considered an accomplishment just to reach the State Championships for See. However, this year the goal has changed to expectations to accomplish some big time results. See hasn’t finished outside the Top-6 in any race this season, including capturing two individual titles earlier this fall.

See’s final preparation for Saturdays meet will include a course preview on Friday at National Trail Raceway, where he will get a fresh view of any course changes from a year ago.

The Sailor will compete in the Boys Division II race on Saturday at 2:15pm. The Top-20 finishers will earn recognition as an All-Ohio performer.  Tickets can be pre-purchased by visiting the Championship page, or are available at the ticket booth on race day.  Live Results will be availabe on race day and the link can be found by following the team twitter account (@VermilionXC) on Saturday.
