Multiple Teams · Sailors compete against 7 State Ranked XC Teams

ONTARIO –  The Vermilion Cross Country teams traveled south on Saturday, September 21st to compete at the Bill Brown Invitational in Ontario, Ohio.  The meet featured a total of seven State ranked teams according to the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.

On the boys side, the Sailors finished 4th of 15 teams behind New London (2nd ranked team Division III), St. Mary’s (15th ranked team in Division III), and Shelby (5th ranked team in Division II).

Leading the Sailors to the impressive 4th place finish the competitive field was Luke See (2nd/17:17) and Isaac Lindo (13th/17:56).  This was See’s fifth Top-3 finish in as many races this season.  Beyond medal winning performances was seven season best performances proving the Sailors are moving in the right direction.  Those performances that impressed Coach Ladd came from Jayden Bearden (41st/19:13), Jacob Webb (44th/19:21),  Aiden Miller (77th/21:20), Zach Jones (82nd/22:02), Matthew Hershberger (22:15),  Jack Wells (24:08), and Rider Brewer (25:39).

The girls field featured Ontario (2nd ranked team in Division II), Northmor (8th ranked team in Division II), Smithville (18th ranked team in Division III), and New London (20th ranked team in Division III).  Each of those teams paced the Sailors to some impressive performances.  The Sailors had five finishers combining for 319 points good enough for a 11th place finish of the 15 participating schools. Highlighting the Sailors efforts were career best performances from Grace Morris (94th/27:28), and Bekah Kovaric (29:35) as the 4th and 5th scorers helping provide the best finish from a 4-5 from the Sailors this fall.

“We come to a meet like this to test our competitive juices” Coach Ladd said. “We were very happy with how each of the kids stayed engaged throughout the entire 5,000 meters.  It’s fun to test each of our kids and give them confidence that they can compete with runners who will participate at the State XC Championships in November.”

Middle School Report
The boys team finished 8th of 15 teams with two (2) Top-20 finishes from Joseph Webb (16th) and Collin Angney (20th).
The girls team finished 14th of 17 participating schools with two career best performances from Devyn Teeple and Ava Lychkowski.

Next Up
Vermilion will play host to 17 other schools on Saturday, September 28th for the Obenour Cross Country Invitational.
The meet will be hosted at the Sailorway campus.
