The 2018 Vermilion Sailors Boys Basketball Team is an experienced one toting ten seniors. They are working incredibly hard to make sure they have a successful season. Expectations are high as they are hoping to win their 3rd consecutive SBC Conference Championship and to advance as far as possible in the state tournament!

Today’s featured senior athlete is Luke Pena. Luke had his best game of the season the other night at Margaretta (12 points, 8 rebounds) as the Sailors clinched at least a share of their 3rd consecutive SBC Bay Division Title.

Here’s a little bit about Luke in his own words:

How long have you been playing this sport?

I have played since second grade.

What are you looking for out of this season?

I hope for this season to be something that I will always remember. I hope the season is finishing what the team was not able to do last year, which is to hopefully beyond just regionals at Bowling Green.

What’s your favorite Vermilion sports moment?

My favorite moment in basketball was against Sandusky to finish off our season (last year). Sandusky was a top team in our district and it was a tuneup before the tournament. We went in and just played great team basketball and it was a moment that proved to the team that we could go as far as we wanted to

What other activities do you participate in?

I played football, am in the VIA Social Media group and am in National Honors Society.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to attend college and go into marketing.

How do you hope to “Fill the Sails” and leave a legacy for future Vermilion athletes?

My whole high school career for basketball always had one constant, winning. I hope my legacy at Vermilion High School is that we continued a winning culture and hope it stays continued for years to come.
