The 2018 Vermilion Sailor Cheerleaders are an experienced squad with 6 seniors this year. They are looking forward to an exciting basketball season and rallying up the crowd as the boys battle their way to success! Today’s featured senior athlete is Riley Schnieders.
Here’s a little bit about Riley in her own words:
How long have you been playing this sport?
I started cheering on the boys basketball team my 7th grade year at Vermilion. Outside of school cheerleading, I have seven years of competitive cheerleading experience.
What are you looking for out of this season?
This year I am looking for an amazing season with the girls on the squad and making lifelong memories. I also hope to help cheer on the boys to make a far tournament run.
What’s your favorite Vermilion sports moment?
My favorite moment for basketball cheerleading is when I cheered Varsity for my sophomore year and was able to cheer on my brother as he played for the Sailors his senior year.
What other activities do you participate in?
I am involved in Move2Stand, Student Council, National Honors Society, and I am a member of the new VIA Social Media group here at VHS.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plans after graduation is to attend a four year University to major in some field of business.
How do you hope to “Fill the Sails” and leave a legacy for future Vermilion athletes?
In order to “Fill the Sails” for future Vermilion athletes I plan on encouraging as many younger Sailors to step up and try new things as they go throughout their high school years.
