Game Recap

The Vermilion Sailors Junior Varsity team suffered a gut wrenching loss Tuesday night as they visited the Panthers of Elyria Catholic. The Sailors came in riding high on a two game winning streak, looking to push it to three games. The Sailors started out well pushing across a run in the top of the first. Reese Miller took the mound for the Sailors, looking to help continue the Sailors’ streak. Miller was equal to the task as he held the Panthers to one run on one hit while striking out four. Max Walker came in to start the fourth and picked up where Miller left off, holding the Panthers again to one hit over 3 and 1/3 innings. With the Sailors clinging to a one run lead heading into the bottom of the 7th, the Panthers were able to get the first two runners on base before Walker struck out the next batter. After a walk and a pitching change, the home team was able to push across two runs with a hit and a Sailor miscue to win the game. Despite a valiant effort by the Sailor pitching staff, the visitors came up short. Mitchell Boice paced the offense with two opposite field base hits in three at bats while also driving in one run. Ridge Clark smashed two hits, stole a base, as well as scored the Sailors first run. Mark Morris and Walker also added base hits. Jake Horvath scored a run and flashed some stylish base running as he pilfered two bases. Sterling Benko also swiped a base for the Sailors. The young diamonders take the field again on Wednesday April 6th against the Rocky River Pirates looking to up their record to four wins. Come on out a watch the future stars of the Sailor baseball program.
